House That Burnt Down

by Matt Joe Gow

/

about

'House that burnt down' from Matt Joe Gow is the sound of Dunedin born troubadour exploring some of his earliest musical influences - the blues. The song features and was recorded by Bill Chambers who adds his stamp to this raw acoustic number reminiscent of John Lee Hooker. Recorded live off the floor everything is laid bare foot tapping, strings rattling, the floor creaking, it serves to capture the very essence of the blues, the performance. Lyrically it is a dark journey that can be seen either as a metaphor for a relationship or even a literal account of a man who has lost it all and looks to find solace in song.

lyrics

House That Burnt Down

I come home to my house
All aflame, all aflame
Everything up in flames
The house that burnt down

I come home to my house
All aflame Lord, all aflame
And my heart was the same
The house that burnt down

I come home to my house
All aflame, all aflame
And I searched for you
But you were already gone, already gone
The house that burnt down
