The album is filled with great tracks including some of Matt's best songs - from the crowd favourite 'Georgia Rose' to the high energy of 'Running on time'. The beautiful 'Flowers in your hair' is also a standout. Hard to pick favourites on this album though so get it before it sells out!

Recorded and produced by Matt Joe Gow and Andrew Pollock `Seven Years' takes its title from the chorus lyrics of a song (`Steady Life') from Matt's debut album `The Messenger': ``Seven years are gonna change a man . . . ''.

Seven years have also changed some songs. Take the track `Down River' -- initially titled `The Messenger' and recorded at Sing Sing Studios with Nash Chambers for Matt's debut. The song evolved via years of touring and has been reborn as a different beast on this record.

And time alters people, too, of course.

For example, the third verse on `Georgia Rose' speaks about the death of Matt's grandfather and his memories of him as a child; `Right by You' documents the end of a long-term relationship that had begun in Matt's hometown (Dunedin, New Zealand) and finished in Melbourne; while `Runnin' on Time' is the sound of a band on the road, trying to win over new audiences with some loud rock 'n' roll.

A diverse set of songs ranging from foot stomping rock 'n roll numbers and heartfelt americana belters through to harmony laden shimmering alt country and spacious ballads, 'Seven Years' contains seven years worth of Matt Joe Gow's finest songwriting and was the beginning of his journey as a producer.

I'm Your Man 03:50
I'm you man There's a fire a burning rain on the parade There's a wheel a turning let it turn, let it drive away You don't need this wreckage Just a change of plan Been waiting in the wings, I'm done with it Baby I'm your man Trouble goin' fall away now Trouble goin' be damned Trouble goin' fall away now Baby I'm your man Hey, don't you wanna be something more? I can give you that yes I can Hey, let me tell you that's what loves for I can give you that I'm your man Like a broken record Or late night TV It's just the same old same old Baby come with me Trouble goin' fall away now Trouble goin' be damned Trouble goin' fall away now Baby I'm your man Hey, don't you wanna be something more? I can give you that yes I can Hey, let me tell you that's what loves for I can give you that I'm your man

Bottle It Up, Pass It On There is nothing more that I want than to give you my heart but you know it won't take There is nothing more that I want than to give you myself but you know I wouldn't keep There's gotta be someone you can walk hand in hand with cos I see you wear it on your sleeve So Bottle it up and pass it on There is nothing more that I want than to give you my hand but you know it wouldn't hold There is nothing more that I want than to give you my touch but you know it's gone cold There's gotta be someone out there you could love, someone who can give you what you need So bottle it up and pass it on I say bottle it up and pass it on There is nothing more of our love, cos it's broken down, it's in pieces There is no more that our love could take, when it's gone away you can't chase it Now don't go thinkin I didnt love you babe cos I loved you with everything that I had I just went away and I didn't come back Now don't you think I didn't love you girl cos I swear with every inch there is of me It broke my heart and I broke yours too

Georgia Rose 04:49
Georgia Rose I been traveling down these streets alone Like a river flowing to the sea Like a child scorned though duly loved Or a gypsy born of no belief Every town that I lay my head 'Fore I sleep there's a moments peace When she comes to me singing low and sweet I shall be released Take me home sweet Georgia Rose, take me home let me live again Take me home sweet Georgia Rose, with a voice that were heaven sent Ain't a song that I wanna sing, ain't a river that I wanna ride Without you sweet Georgia Rose by my side The Days fell one by one And the years started doubling up 'Til the kiss from a stranger sought Were just lips to an empty cup But when the truth that I knew inside Weren't the words most wanna hear It was the sweet sound of Georgia Rose Singin' loud and clear Take me home sweet Georgia Rose, take me home let me live again Take me home sweet Georgia Rose, with a voice that were heaven sent Ain't a song that I wanna sing, ain't a river that I wanna ride Without you sweet Georgia Rose by my side In the fields Ma, I dream it still He's a waving like when I was young His sleeves rolled, hands of soil, arms blackened from the sun Oh when he passed lord it left me cold Kinda cold ain't no shelter from 'Til her voice took me in a warm embrace and carried me in song Take me home sweet Georgia Rose, take me home let me live again Take me home sweet Georgia Rose, with a voice that were heaven sent Ain't a song that I wanna sing, ain't a river that I wanna ride Without you sweet Georgia Rose by my side

Flowers In Your Hair Waking up alone I cross my heart Now where’s a love that I can find in the dark? Now where’s a love? now where’s a love? now where’s a love? When I’m broken down out round the way Give me a love I can take day by day Now there’s a love, Now there’s a love, Now there’s a love You may find it in the end Try to hold it from the start If it catch you unawares That is love That is love If you were to pass this way again Oh know that I’d be waiting on a train Flowers in your hair, you’d look the same Oh my love, Oh my love You may find it in the end Try to hold it from the start If it catch you unawares That is love

Right By You 04:15
Right By You I watch the rain on the hood of your car As we’re sitting at the end of your street Now there are things I wanna say Things that I know now Things I didn’t know then So I’m asking Don’t you ever wonder if it could’ve been right? Don’t you ever wonder if it could’ve been right? Sometimes I do wonder if I ever did right by you Don’t you ever wonder if it could’ve been right? That engine ain’t idling to well And I know you’ve got work in the morning But there’s things I gotta say I don’t wanna make you cry, never again But I’m asking Don’t you ever wonder if it could’ve been right? Don’t you ever wonder if it could’ve been right? Sometimes I do wonder if I ever did right by you Don’t you ever wonder if it could’ve been right?

And it's a tender time A tender time A tender time But I know you, yah I know you It's the end of this year You say we aint got nothing to fear But I've seen that look before And before u close the door You shrug your shoulders and say It's a tender time It's a tender time it's a tender time But I know you, yah I know you

Cos that'll do A love like this don't come around much Most of the time don't come at all So pack your things and come and see me Come and see me Or I'm coming for you Out on the streets the folks are rushing I often think about where to And some may say that I'm going nowhere But here beside you, you know it's true A love like this don't come around much Most of the time don't come at all So pack your things and come and see me Come and see me Or I'm coming for you I ain't a man of grand ambition i ain't a man who wants for much But here's what I want Right here's what I want I ain't a man of grand ambition But here's what I want Here's what I want

about

Produced by Andrew Pollock and Matt Joe Gow, ‘Seven Years’ is another notch in the belt of the Kiwi-born, Melbourne-based country rock/folk artist. The album’s 12 tracks vary in tempo and vibe, the modest album cover doing little to prepare you for the weight of Gow’s 48-minute storytelling session. The musical journey has such conviction that it starts to feel as though the stories have been stolen right from your own personal journal entries. ‘Seven Years,’ blends Americana roots with alternative country, blues and folk influences. The songs touch on reminiscent moments in time and lost love. There is intense beauty in the way that its music complements Gow’s southern melodies (‘southern’ being Dunedin of course).

The core formula of uncomplicated leisurely paced tunes, lined with stylish harmonies makes it an easy listen. Singing or humming along is autonomous and beyond your control. High praise is due to the polished musicians within this album and the skill they display in nurturing the feeling within each track. It’s been almost seven years since Gow’s last album and feels like a return to the form of his 2009 debut ‘The Messenger’, which coincidentally is where this album takes its title from. Mastering musical and personal growth and maturity over the past seven years is heard loud and clear, testament to those years being musically well spent.
